Impact story

D. Sudhakar

Wheelchair cricketer · Orthotist and prosthetist

Finding purpose and passion on the cricket pitch

Seven years into wheelchair cricket, Sudhakar balances a career in prosthetics with standout performances on the pitch, finding a supportive community and a platform to prove what's possible through DMSA.

Chapter 1 · Roots

Growing up

Sudhakar grew up with a mother, a father and four sisters, and spent school years in a hostel for persons with disabilities, alongside many students in similar situations.

In early childhood, after a fever and medical injections, polio began to affect Sudhakar's mobility. Sudhakar went on to earn a B.Com and then a diploma in prosthetics and orthotics, building a career helping others with their mobility.

Chapter 2 · Turning point

Discovering wheelchair cricket

Sudhakar used to play regular cricket with able-bodied players. When DMSA opened a dedicated, accessible space for wheelchair cricket, Sudhakar signed up straight away — turning a casual interest into an organised, competitive journey among peers who shared the same passion.

DMSA gives huge support and encouragement to handicapped persons, bringing them into society so they can prove themselves.

Beyond the boundary

Life off the field

Sudhakar gives holidays and free time to cricket. At the academy, among teammates and friends, feelings are shared openly — camaraderie that adds joy and connection to a busy life.

As a professional orthotist and prosthetist, Sudhakar helps others with their mobility, with a stable livelihood that leaves room to play on holidays and in free time.

Sudhakar's main dream is to build a proper house and take good care of the family — and to keep playing wheelchair cricket, helping the sport grow and inspiring others.
