Impact story · Harihar taluk, Davanagere district

Mallikarjun V S

All-rounder · Judicial department, Dharwad

Playing cricket from a wheelchair changed everything

Mallikarjun V S found a renewed path through wheelchair cricket at DMSA. From roots in Harihar to representing Karnataka and working in the judicial department, cricket drives strength, fitness and joy.

Told in Mallikarjun’s own words

Chapter 1 · Roots

Growing up in Harihar

Mallikarjun was born and raised in Ditur village, Harihar taluk — a normal, healthy, active childhood alongside parents and three sisters, with schooling in Harihar and Davanagere.

Later, a spinal injury made standing and walking difficult. Playing cricket again seemed impossible; all that was left was watching from the sidelines.

Chapter 2 · Turning point

Discovering wheelchair cricket

Praveen Angadi introduced Mallikarjun to Shiva and Divyaang Myithri Sports Academy in Bengaluru, and that first visit opened a new world.

Before DMSA there was a belief that disability meant never playing cricket again. Discovering that wheelchair cricket allows full batting, bowling and fielding brought immense joy.

After going to Divyaang Myithri Sports Academy, I learned that we can play cricket even in a wheelchair.

Chapter 3 · On the field

Representing Karnataka

The proudest moment: representing Karnataka at the nationals for the first time.

Every day at DMSA brings something new to learn, with coaches and teammates always ready to help — fuelling a deep passion for the sport.

My proudest moment is definitely representing Karnataka in the nationals for the first time.
