Impact story · Gangavati, Koppal district

Abraham

All-rounder · Tea stall owner

Finding strength and stardom on the cricket pitch

Balancing a local tea stall with a fierce passion for wheelchair cricket, Abraham found a new sense of identity, community and pride through DMSA — turning everyday struggles into unforgettable sporting moments.

Chapter 1 · Roots

Rooted in hardship

Abraham grew up in a modest family in Gangavati, Koppal district, where money was always tight. Polio affected mobility long before cricket entered the picture, and resilience was learned early.

After completing SSLC, Abraham's focus turned to running a local tea stall to support the family — a demanding routine, far from any sporting dream.

I have grown this much only because of DMSA. They introduced cricket to us.

Chapter 2 · Turning point

Discovering the pitch

Wheelchair cricket arrived through Divyaang Myithri Sports Academy. Before DMSA, sport seemed distant; stepping onto the field for the first time changed everything.

Running the tea stall in the mornings and practising twice a week took real dedication, with friends joining in to help. Tournaments like the Ainapur Siddeshwara Cup opened the door to competitive play.

With DMSA

How DMSA stood with Abraham

DMSA provided the introduction to cricket and the continuous encouragement that transformed daily life — guidance, training and platforms to play competitively. For someone managing a tea stall and daily financial pressure, it offered more than cricket: a community, motivation and a renewed sense of purpose.

What DMSA provided

  • An introduction to wheelchair cricket and competitive play
  • Continuous encouragement and training
  • A supportive sporting community

Chapter 3 · On the field

Glory on the field

At the Ainapur Siddeshwara Cup, Abraham took two crucial wickets in a memorable spell.

Later, after waiting for batting chances, Abraham stepped up in a major tournament and scored twenty-three runs for the first time — a career highlight.

Beyond the boundary

Life off the field

Cricket has boosted Abraham's confidence and changed how people respond. Recognition as a cricketer has brought respect in the community, and the family celebrates every achievement.

Work and independence

The tea stall is Abraham's livelihood — open in the mornings before heading out to play twice a week. The discipline of work and the dedication on the pitch feed each other.

Chapter 5 · Road ahead

A lasting legacy

Abraham wants to build a good, lasting name through cricket, earned on merit — to keep improving as an all-rounder, play competitive matches, and inspire others in similar circumstances to take up sport without hesitation.
